Q.
What new features have been added to I-Mail and what
changes have been made to the new version?
A.
New Features and Changes to I-Mail:
Q.
Why can't I access my IUP E-mail through I-Mail when I am
using AOL, WebTV, or CompuServe as my Internet Service Provider
(ISP)?
A.
I-Mail's default security will not permit sessions that do
not have a fixed network (IP) address. This is
enabled by default to improve session security, by
eliminating the possibility of session high-jacking.
Since AOL/WebTV/CompuServe uses multi-home proxy sessions
for users, I-Mail will not work by default. You can,
however, change the "Require Fixed Network
Address" setting, to "NO", to have
I-Mail work when using AOL/WebTV/CompuServe as your Internet Service
Provider. This will reduce your session security,
but the possibility of your session being high-jacked is
very slim.
To disable
"Require Fixed Network Address" temporarily so you can
login and change the setting permanently, check the
"Disable Network Address Check" box on the I-Mail login
page. Once you are logged in, go to the Settings
page and set Require Fixed Network Address to No. By
doing this, you no longer have to check the "Disable
Network Address Check" on the login page every time you
want to login to I-mail from an external ISP.
You can
also chose to keep the "Require Fixed Network Address"
setting set to Yes for your account and use the "Disable
Network Address Check" box each time you access the system
from an external ISP that uses multi-home proxy sessions.
You may
also be able to get around this issue (I-Mail not working
with multi-home proxy sessions) by using Microsoft's Internet
Explorer. Please contact your ISP for further
details.
It is
important that you understand the implications of setting
the "Require Fixed Network Address"
setting, to "NO". If you need further explanation,
please contact your Q.
What are the two check
boxes on the I-Mail login page for?
A.
The two check boxes on the I-Mail login page are "Disable
Network Address Check" and "Disable Cookies". These
check boxes are optional and only apply to the current
attempted session. These temporary settings can be
permanently enabled or disabled using the Settings page
once you are logged in to I-Mail. The Disable
Network Address Check will allow you to login if your ISP
uses multi-home proxies as described in
this FAQ. The Disable
Cookies option will allow you to connect to the server
when using a browser that does not support cookies or when
using an untrusted/public computer system.
Q.
When I click on the "add address" button to add an
address of the sender of a message I am viewing, I get an
error stating "insufficient
access rights".
A.
I-Mail's add address feature will add the address of the
sender of the current message to your current default
address book, which is the I-Mail Address Book when you
log in. If you use the Address Book interface to
search the IUP Directory it becomes the current default
address book until you either log off or select and
display the I-Mail Address Book again from the Address
Book interface. Since the IUP Directory (LDAP) is
read only, you get this message. You will need to
select and display the I-Mail Address Book from the
Address Book interface in the Compose page to add an
address using the Add Address feature, or log off and log
back in.
Q.
I am having trouble logging into I-Mail and I am not
using an ISP noted above. I know I
have a valid IUP E-mail account. What could be the
problem?
A.
Check to make sure your Caps Lock key is not on.
I-Mail passwords are Case-Sensitive. For more
information on IUP E-mail accounts and passwords, please
view the online
IUP E-mail services information page.
Q.
When using Microsoft Internet Explorer on the
Macintosh, I cannot get I-mail to send a message when
hitting submit on the compose screen?
A.
This is a confirmed bug with Microsoft IE for the
Macintosh computer. Microsoft has not released a
patch to fix this problem as of May 2003. You may
want to try using an alternative browser, such as Netscape
6.2.
Q.
What Internet
browsers are recommended for using I-Mail?
A.
I-Mail is best used via the following browsers:
- Internet Explorer v6.0 or
higher for Windows
- Netscape v6.2 or higher for
Windows and Macintosh
Q.
How many attachments can I send in one E-mail message
using I-Mail?
A.
You can send up to 6 attachments in one E-mail
message. To send more than 6 attachments, you will
need to send multiple messages or will have to use
another, more robust, E-mail client such has Outlook
Express etc.
Q.
I got a message saying I was disconnected from the
server. What does this mean?
A.
I-Mail has an inactivity time-out to preserve system
resources and to increase session security. The
inactivity time-out is set at 30 minutes. For
example, if you log into I-Mail and leave for a few hours,
when you come back and try to perform a function in
I-Mail, you will be prompted to log back in.
Once you log in again, you will be able to resume your
disconnected session from where you left off by selecting
the resume button.
Q.
I am having difficulties in using I-Mail, and I have
read the on-line documentation and this FAQ. Where
can I get more help and support on using I-Mail?
A.
Please contact your Technology
Support Representative.
